It is now 2023, and five years have passed since the last in-person mission of the BIA in Mexico. Throughout the years, BIA agents and local agencies have successfully completed individual missions, but we have yet to unite under a common objective. It is time for us to come together and fight for a shared mission.

This has led to a disconnection between the local agencies and BIA. The speed and urgency of our local missions, combined with socio-economic events, the pandemic, technology, and various external factors beyond the control of local agencies and BIA, have sometimes resulted in working in silos and failing to leverage the benefits of collaboration. It is time to recognize the value of BIA and local agencies working towards a common mission.

We need to enhance our ESSENCE and DNA as an agency, evolve, and develop all the necessary capabilities to prepare for the future. The essence of BIA is its people, and during our internal mission in Istanbul, we will bring together 180 agents who will lay the foundation for the new BIA.

We will focus on our core essence and DNA, and explore ways to leverage the capabilities and knowledge of ALL BIA agents, regardless of their roles or locations within the agency.

We value each function of every BIA agent, from the local agency director to the agents who develop gadgets and tools for field agents. We also recognize the importance of new agency openings and the central teams responsible for mission strategy.

Therefore, the mission in Istanbul is to value and evolve our ESSENCE and DNA - the people.

This meeting is just the beginning of our mission, during which we will establish the foundations and roadmap necessary to successfully complete it. Over the next few months, we will continue to work on it, involving more agents, developing more tools, and implementing the strategy and objectives agreed upon at the beginning of this mission.

The reason for bringing you to this special location is none other than the celebration of the XXII EMEA Directors Convention in 2023. We are delighted to be able to reunite more than 180 BIA agents in person again after over 4 years since our mission in Mexico. Finally, we are meeting in person for the next 3 days to work on a new mission: Mission Istanbul, The Essence Matters. This mission is inspired by our colleague James Bond, who has been to Istanbul several times in “From Russia with Love,” “Skyfall,” and “The World Is Not Enough.”

This mission is not to fight against infiltrated agents in our organization or to combat external forces that attack BIA. You can relax. In this mission, we will not have fights, attacks, or interferences. This time, the mission takes on a very special meaning far from the agency’s daily missions against external agents. This time, it is an internal mission. The mission of all will be to CONNECT with the BIA ESSENCE, with our DNA, and to value the knowledge of all agents, whether they work in BIA headquarters or as field agents.

This mission begins with this meeting, and we will continue working on it for the next few months. We will start by reviewing the current state of the BIA agency: what missions we have solved in recent years, what challenges we have faced, and then continue with the study, evaluation, and proposal of internal collaboration, tools, and teamwork to face the new challenges that we will have in the coming years as ONE agency.

The opening of new agencies, the incorporation of new agents, the integration of technology into our ways of working, and the new ways of communication with our fellow agents, clients, and owners make it necessary for us to establish premises, strategies, and objectives for internal collaboration and an inclusive culture among all agencies.

INTRO MISSION

During the next few nights, we will carry out three nighttime field missions. Each night, we will immerse ourselves in a relevant era of Turkey’s history. As we saw this morning, Istanbul has been, is, and will be an example of the integration of different cultures, religions, and socio-economic changes throughout its history. All of this has created a particular essence and DNA that allows them to adapt to any change and have a sense of respect and collaboration among their population, which has made them an example for the world.

Tonight, we will immerse ourselves in the Byzantine era, and your field mission will be to locate the light of another agent during dinner and hand it over without being discovered by enemy agents. That light represents each agent’s own essence and will serve as a guide for us in our daily missions when we return home.

During the next few nights, we will carry out three nighttime field missions. Each night, we will immerse ourselves in a relevant era of Turkey’s history. As we saw this morning, Istanbul has been, is, and will be an example of the integration of different cultures, religions, and socio-economic changes throughout its history. All of this has created a particular essence and DNA that allows them to adapt to any change and have a sense of respect and collaboration among their population, which has made them an example for the world.

Tonight, we will immerse ourselves in the Byzantine era, and your field mission will be to locate the light of another agent during dinner and hand it over without being discovered by enemy agents. That light represents each agent’s own essence and will serve as a guide for us in our daily missions when we return home.
